About Johan
Hello! My name is Johan, and I am a violinist and instructor at the San Ramon Academy of Music. I am passionate about helping students discover their unique artistic voice, building both technical skill and creative expression. I believe every musician has an artist within, and my goal is to guide students in unlocking their full potential while fostering a love for music.
I began studying violin at the age of five, and music has been a central part of my life ever since. I have had the privilege of performing on prestigious stages such as Davies Symphony Hall and the National Theater in Costa Rica, as well as participating in chamber music festivals in the Czech Republic and at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University, where I briefly studied with Almita Vamos, and have also trained with Ju-Yi Peng and Debbra Wood Schwartz.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, writing, playing chess, and spending time with my family and pets. I look forward to working with your child and helping them grow as both a musician and an artist!

“I didn’t want my son to be turned off to piano because of all the practicing. Lots of work but not a ton of play. James brings enthusiasm and joy to the discipline. He picked up my son’s style and personality, and could flow according to my son’s uniqueness/playfulness.”

“My biggest concern is if my kids don’t enjoy and have no progress over a significant amount of lessons time. So far your role as a teacher has been very helpful in making my kids interested & focused on their lessons”
