Rhea Wu

Piano Instructor

About Rhea

Welcome! My name is Rhea and I teach piano at the San Ramon Academy of Music.

Piano lessons are more than just piano lessons to me. Besides playing piano and music theory, you’ll find us singing, ear training, and learning stage performance during lessons. Sometimes we even play games, draw, or have a workout! Learning piano is a process of knowing how to coordinate your whole body, build perseverance and figure out who you can become.
I have a BA in music and an MA in Piano Performance Studies from the University of Sheffield, England and I’ve been teaching, as well as performing, for over 7 years. My passion is making sure music is enjoyable and that lessons are tailored to my students.

When I’m not teaching, I like hiking, reading, and muay thai (kickboxing). Being part of nature and activities teach me how to keep moving forward when facing difficulties. I never want to say “I can’t do it,” easily.

Book With Rhea

“I didn’t want my son to be turned off to piano because of all the practicing. Lots of work but not a ton of play. James brings enthusiasm and joy to the discipline. He picked up my son’s style and personality, and could flow according to my son’s uniqueness/playfulness.”

“My biggest concern is if my kids don’t enjoy and have no progress over a significant amount of lessons time. So far your role as a teacher has been very helpful in making my kids interested & focused on their lessons”
