About Ondine
Hi, I’m Ondine Young—a conductor, performer, and music educator based in the Bay Area. I work with a wide range of organizations including Musically Minded Academy, Piedmont Pianos/East Bay Children’s Chorus, and The Crowden School of Music. I also collaborate regularly with Old First Concerts San Francisco, Superpower of the Song, Notes Music Academy, and other community music projects.
I perform with many local ensembles, including Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Albany Consort, Sacramento Baroque, Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra, Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, Vallejo Symphony, Jubilate, and others. I’ve also had the honor of guest conducting groups such as the Oakland Summer Reading Orchestra, Community Women’s Orchestra, Awesome Orchestra, Villa Sinfonia, Sacred and Profane, and even MidAmerica Productions at Carnegie Hall. My family and I also enjoy performing together at Christ Church Los Altos and many local churches.
I co-founded the Tea, Talks, and Treasures series at the Pacific Boychoir Academy, and currently serve on the boards of Dandelion Dancetheater and Winds Across the Bay. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching and conducting for organizations such as the Marin Girls Chorus, National Children’s Chorus, California Youth Symphony, Sound Minds with California Symphony, and Oakland/Marin School for the Arts, among others.
Before moving to the Bay Area, I led the choral program at the University of San Diego. I studied violin, viola, choral and orchestral conducting, and performance practice at UC Santa Cruz and UC Santa Barbara.
I’m passionate about helping students and communities grow through music—whether through teaching, performing, or collaborating across genres and generations.
Book With Ondine

“I didn’t want my son to be turned off to piano because of all the practicing. Lots of work but not a ton of play. James brings enthusiasm and joy to the discipline. He picked up my son’s style and personality, and could flow according to my son’s uniqueness/playfulness.”

“My biggest concern is if my kids don’t enjoy and have no progress over a significant amount of lessons time. So far your role as a teacher has been very helpful in making my kids interested & focused on their lessons”
