Brandon Tran

Violin / Viola

About Brandon

Hi! I’m Brandon, and I teach violin and viola. As a San Ramon native and a member of Dougherty Valley High School’s very first graduating class, it’s incredibly meaningful to be back in the community where my own musical journey began.
I believe the best way to become a musician is to truly enjoy being one. Learning an instrument should feel like a journey of discovery, where every new skill and completed piece is a milestone worth celebrating. My goal is to help students build strong fundamentals while developing confidence, creativity, and a genuine love for making music.

I began studying violin in 2004 and later added viola to my musical journey. Today, I perform as a freelance musician throughout Northern California, playing everything from symphony concerts and operas to weddings, ballets, and contemporary performances. These experiences allow me to bring real-world performance insight into every lesson.

I’m currently completing my Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance at San Francisco State University while continuing to perform and serve the local music community. I’m also excited to be founding the San Ramon Valley Philharmonic, an orchestra dedicated to creating more opportunities for musicians and audiences right here in the Tri-Valley.

Outside of teaching and performing, I enjoy building connections within our local arts community and helping students discover the confidence, discipline, and joy that music can bring. I look forward to being part of your family’s musical journey!

Book With Brandon

“I didn’t want my son to be turned off to piano because of all the practicing. Lots of work but not a ton of play. James brings enthusiasm and joy to the discipline. He picked up my son’s style and personality, and could flow according to my son’s uniqueness/playfulness.”

“My biggest concern is if my kids don’t enjoy and have no progress over a significant amount of lessons time. So far your role as a teacher has been very helpful in making my kids interested & focused on their lessons”
