About Debbie

Hi! I’m Debbie, and I teach violin because I believe music has the power to build confidence, spark curiosity, and create lifelong connections. My goal is to help every student feel supported, encouraged, and excited to keep growing, no matter where they are on their musical journey.

My own journey with the violin began almost by accident. I started piano as a young child, and when a friend decided to sign up for violin in fourth grade, I simply joined her. It wasn’t until college that I truly fell in love with the instrument, and from that point on, it completely changed my life.

Since then, the violin has taken me on incredible adventures, allowing me to perform with orchestras, travel, and become part of amazing musical communities. Those experiences remind me that music opens doors far beyond the practice room, and I love encouraging my students to stay curious and see where their own musical journey might lead.

One of the things I value most is the sense of community that music creates. Whether we’re learning a new piece, preparing for a performance, or simply celebrating a small breakthrough, I want my studio to be a place where students feel they belong and enjoy the process of learning.

When I’m not performing or teaching, you’ll usually find me crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, enjoying ballet, or working with elementary students in Oakland schools. I look forward to sharing my love of music and helping your child discover everything the violin has to offer.

Book With Debbie

“I didn’t want my son to be turned off to piano because of all the practicing. Lots of work but not a ton of play. James brings enthusiasm and joy to the discipline. He picked up my son’s style and personality, and could flow according to my son’s uniqueness/playfulness.”

“My biggest concern is if my kids don’t enjoy and have no progress over a significant amount of lessons time. So far your role as a teacher has been very helpful in making my kids interested & focused on their lessons”
